Overview
Cheng Xin (CX) Venture Capital Group is a Taiwan-based venture investment company established in 1990. The firm manages eight funds (including three biotechnology/life sciences specialty fund) representing over US$160 million of capital. CX Venture Capital Group makes investment decisions for its family of funds in both the high technology and biotechnology industries throughout North America and Asia Pacific regions. High technology investments primarily include energy, electronics, optoelectronics, communications, information technology and software. Biotechnology encompasses companies in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, bioinformatics, healthcare services and agricultural biotechnology. In addition to the provision of capital, CX Venture Capital Group assists its portfolio companies to develop corporate strategy, bridge strategic alliances, and recruit key management personnel.


Investment Objective
CX Venture Capital Group seeks superior returns for its Funds as an early and expansion stage investor of companies with revolutionary technologies and dedicated founders. Investments are made entirely in private companies. Additional investment capital from the fund’s investors and other affiliated institutions often accompany committed investments from CX Venture Capital Group. As such, the total investment amount provided to a portfolio company can be substantially larger than that invested directly by CX Venture Capital Group.


Investment Criteria
The majority of CX Venture Capital Group investments are in North America and Asia-Pacific based companies with promising “revolutionary” technologies and products in early to mid-stage development. Investment decisions are based on rigid criteria including the following:
  • strong proprietary position
  • “breakthrough” technology platform
  • large market potential
  • experienced and committed management team
  • potential synergy of technologies or products developed among portfolio companies
